The horns at Rockfest.
Saturday, 55,000 people descended on Liberty Memorial in Kansas City for the annual craziness that is Rockfest, the largest one-day music fest in the country. For the past three years, I’ve taken my daughter, @SolitaryPancake, as part of a mini-family reunion with my siblings.
The first year, it was 95 degrees and required much hydration to survive. By the time Korn took the stage, we were exhausted.
The second year, it rained much of the day, and the temperature hovered in the 50s. Some people dubbed it “Mudfest” because the field turned to a giant mass o’ mud. Despite the nasty weather, Godsmack was well worth the wait.
This year was perfect: Overcast and 55. Though Disturbed was a great headliner, one of my favorite moments was Alter Bridge, the band I most wanted to see. For this set, we ventured closer to the stage and the moshers, and they did not disappoint.
This snapshot captures “Rise Today,” which pushed everyone’s hands into the air.
Definitely worth the crowd crush.
